improvement in quality was due to the whisper model i used. You will be limited by your VRAM and RAM depending on your specs.
For anyone interested on critiquing my process here it is:
1) Download M4A file
2) Use buzz to extract the JP .srt (set model to "faster whisper" with "medium")
3) Open then save the file as docx and upload to deepL for translation into eng
4) I used gotranscript to convert the docx from deepl into srt
5) Convert the audio file from M4A to MP4 (online-convert.com)
6) Use Handbrake to burnin the english srt into the MP4 file
Note: This was done on a windows machine. Handbrake saves the vid with subtitles in your "videos" folder by default
