Later on, when I found the diaries talking about her abuse, it made the game's tone very clear. As for the origin of the forest or the place she's in, I'm not sure.

Perhaps she had already taken her own life in the forest, and this is her way of dealing with her problems, which would make sense given how some of the monsters are portrayed.

I really felt for the character, especially since I wasn't expecting things to start so intensely, and it'll likely continue in that direction. The game doesn't seem very long, so I'll probably finish it in 5 chapters or less.
