To You
I am writing this letter now, listening to your quiet breathing as you sleep.
Even though we are in the same room, the act of leaving behind a letter like this feels
a little strange—and a little frightening.
For a long time, I have been hesitating.
Because I knew how precious the days I spent with you truly were to me.
And yet, there was a part of me that could not give up on painting.
Every time I stand before a blank canvas, I can feel a small flame smoldering deep in my chest.
In a place where the language and culture are different, I will begin painting once more, from nothing.
I know I will feel anxious. I know I will feel lonely. And I know I will think of you again and again.
Even so, I wanted to move forward while carrying all of that with me.
The days I spent with you will never disappear from within me.
The laughter, the arguments, even the quiet moments we shared without words.
All of it has become my colors, seeping somewhere into the paintings I will create from here on.
If someday, in a small gallery in a distant country, you happen to see one of my paintings,
please know that within that single piece, our memories are painted as well.
From here on, please walk your own life.
And I will walk the path I have chosen, all the way to the end.
