After the recent war and conflict, the Alliance population had been decimated. Big cities and small villages alike struggled to sustain themselves. With so few capable people to work the fields, food was quickly becoming a problem. To remedy this, the Alliance began to take some drastic measures in an attempt to repopulate the land.
The first breeding stocks were established in Stormwind. Leaders of the Alliance were called upon to lead by example, and Horde prisoners were offered drastically reduced sentences in exchange for their participation. The event was treated as a celebration, with free ale for all.
Peasants from the countryside never forgot the raids and harassment they suffered at the hands of the Defias. When they learned of Vanessa VanCleef's attendance, they travelled from far and wide to visit the then-bandit leader.
Similarly, members of the Defias had their fair share of history with the nobles of Stormwind. The red face cover was a common sight in the lineup for Lady Jaina Proudmoore.
While there weren't many soldiers left, those that did make it tended to line up for the Horde prisoner. This was a time they would actually enjoy spending with the enemy.
